Parents Urged to

Hurry Up for Multicultural Event !

Horsham area parents and guardians are being urged to hurry up if they want their youngsters to participate in a multicultural celebration event being held at the town's Youth Centre on Saturday 29 March.

More than half of the free places have been taken by children aged between five and thirteen years who want to experience workshops in drumming, dance, music, costume design and drama.

The day-long event, which ends in a public performance, has been arranged by West Sussex County Voluntary Youth Service in partnership with Roots Around the World, African Night Fever, and Horsham YMCA.

Booking and registration forms are available from 01403 252139 or jackie.beckford@wscvys.org.uk

ROOTS' ON THE RADIO

with MARK RINGWOOD

Our weekly 3 -hour show every Sunday night at 7pm on Spirit FM (96.6, 102.3 or 106.6FM) continues to gather a growing audience of discerning listeners, and the plain curious who probably can't quite fathom how blues, country, folk, and world music manage to sit happily next to each other - but they do !

"This show is similar to the trail-blazing content I used to listen to being played by John Peel, there are no prejudices, you're selecting material because of it's quality, not it's genre."

Special guest Judie Tzuke

Roots Around the World's 'JAR ON THE BAR' helps to support The Jibon Tari Floating Hospital in Bangladesh and other worthy projects set up by the Haywards Heath-based charity:

At all our Roots' events there will be a 'Jar on the Bar' to help raise funds for The Impact Foundation. Every little bit of loose change adds up and you'll be amazed at how far it will go towards helping the poorest communities of the world.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO KINDLY DONATED THEIR CHANGE AT OUR 2004-05 SERIES OF EVENTS.

YOU RAISED A STAGGERING £301.40 !

THE JIBON TARI

The Jibon Tari floating hospital travels Bangladesh's many rivers, taking healthcare to hard-to-reach rural areas. Roots' has personal connections with the project and The Impact Foundation as the hospital was designed by Geoff Martin, who sadly passed away in 2005 was the father of our project manager Sue Martin. In fact Sue was very involved at the start of the project as she travelled to Bangladesh with her dad to research and produce a video on the need for, and the feasibility of, constructing such a hospital. Their experiences of visiting the poorest and most densely populated rural areas, where literally millions of people were deprived of any basic hospital care or operating facilities convinced them that the need for a floating hospital was unquestionable.

Understandably, Sue remains extremely proud of her father's voluntary achievement as The Jibon Tari was launched in 1999 and so far, over 200,000 people have benefited and 10,000 operations have been performed. Just recently, the Jibon Tari stopped in Nowapara, Jessore and accomplished it's 20th project during which the medical team on board carried out their usual blend of surgery and treatments to restore sight, movement or hearing or to repair cleft lip, and health education designed to prevent common causes of needless disability. In addition the Jibon Tari provides physiotherapy, immunisation and training for health workers and Traditional Birth Attendants

.The Impact Foundation urgently needs funding in order to keep the floating hospital in service - with your help we hope the Jibon Tari will continue its journey for many years to come.

'JAR ON THE BAR' & what that 'loose change' could be doing:

£50 - £87 will train a health worker or birth attendant. £25 will fund an operation to restore sight, movement or hearing or a cleft lip, £10 will provide health education that can protect against needless disability to 10 more people, £5 will provide an examination and appropriate treatment for another person.
