Back in 1959 guitarist Tommy Allsup lost the flip
of a coin withRitchieValens for a seat on a plane,
and the rest as they say, 'is history'. It wasthe
ill-fated Buddy Holly plane which went on to crash
shortly aftertake-off, killing Buddy, Ritchie and
the Big Bopper.
Tommy was the guitarist with Buddy's band on songs
like 'It's So Easy', 'Heartbeat', 'Wishing' which
of course explains his link to Kevin Montgomery. Kevin's
dad wrote 'Heartbeat' and 'Wishing' with Buddy, back
in the days before The Crickets, and Kevin has always
featured those
songs, along with others, in his set when he tours
over here in the UK.
'An Evening with Tommy Allsup and Kevin Montgomery'
will begin acoustically with Kevin and Tommy, playing
and singing and sharing stories, and even taking questions
from the audience. For the second part of the show
they will be joined by bass and drums to help rock
through some of the songs on which has Tommy played
during his life-long career.
After Holly's death, Tommy Allsup went into producing
the great Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys and worked
with the likes of Willie Nelson, Bobby Vee, Johnny
Burnette, Julie London and Vickie Carr and played
with and
produced Asleep At The Wheel.
It will be an un-missable opportunity to see one
of the great guitarists with Nashville's finest singer/songwriter.
